Process

This was by far my largest project as an intern. I went through the whole process of squaring, stapling, and starching a drop, and then vaguely gridded out and cartooned some of the major cloud shapes. The clouds were made exclusively with a hand-pump sprayer and Grit-o-Cob for masking.
First I sprayed the lightest colors, and then added more and more masking as I progressively worked to darker colors. The process was repeated as I swept up the masking, evaluated, and built up the layers. The water was also created mostly with a garden sprayer and only a little bit of brushwork. The boat was painted to be opaque, and was mostly done with a brush, but a little bit of a spray was added to match the texture to the rest of the painting.
