Iwo Jima Flag:

In one of the dance numbers, the director wanted to recreate an Iwo Jima flag moment, so the flag was cut out of foam. Painting it was trickier than I expected because of the surface, so the trompe l'oeil took more time and effort than it would have on wood or fabric.

False Proscenium:

We projected the tree false proscenium onto the wood tacked to the back wall and charcoaled the outline. The tree colors were scumbled on following bark lines, and the bark contours were clarified with highlights and shadows put in in stylized lines.
